Side effects on Canadian soldiers

The involvement of Canadian troops in Afghanistan is a subject that is continuously being debated. Some people think that it’s a good thing that Canada is there but others are against. What do you think?
From my point of view, this war is useless and devastating because it is not helping the Afghani population and its ruining the life of many of our young soldiers. Since the beginning of this war, at least 1500 soldiers have been injured, both physically and mentally, in Afghanistan. We don’t know the exact number though because the department of National Defence keeps it a secret and because it changes with time. These soldiers who left their homes and families behind to represent Canada and help Afghanistan come back with missing legs, missing arms and mental disorder, such as PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). It’s an emotional illness that appears after living terribly frightening or life-threatening experiences. The majority of the physically injured soldiers try to get back in the military forces after passing through rehab; sadly they don’t always make it through the several tests. In those cases, they have to find new jobs which are hard to acquire since they are handicapped and that most of the time they don’t have the studies to get a good job. The other soldiers, the ones that came back with PTSD, are marked for life by the different symptomes of this disease. Do you think it’s necessary to have to live through all this pain knowing that we aren’t really helping Afghanistan?
