Tension between religions

For a thousand years, Christians and Muslims have fought many battles. The tension between theese two great religions is very intense. The majority of the Canadien soldiers in Afghanistan are Christians and the majority of Afghanis and insurgents are Muslims. Since Canada is currently invading Afghanistan, are we not creating more tension between the two faiths? Are we not creating a bigger problem by fighting on muslim territory as well as imposing Christian values and rules? The Insurgents are very deep believers in the Islamic religion, and they will defend their culture and identity. Don't you think that more blood will be spilled, more innocent lives lost, if we don't end this now? The collateral damage will be even bigger than it already is. This killing cannot go on. The tension is already great enough. Their should not be more hate. Let Afghanistan ebuild itself on Muslim values and lead itself without the support of another naiton. Afghanis are known for not being kind to invaders. Don't you think that they will reunite themselves to kick us out? If you do not care about Afghanistan, then do it for Canada. Do you want more Canadien soldiers to perish? If not, then think like me. Canada must leave Afghanistan now!

Mismanaged money !

Canadian troops shouldn’t be involved in the Afghani conflict. One of the most important aspects that proves that the Canadian involvement in Afghanistan isn’t right is the costs. It costs about $525 000 to keep one Canadian soldier in Afghanistan and approximately 1, 5 billion dollars for all the troops per year to the Government. These figures do not take into account soldiers salaries or their long-term health-care. Also, this amount does not include the 2 billion dollars that Canada currently has in infrastructures and equipment in Afghanistan. Couldn’t we spend that money elsewhere? We could spend it in medical care or in education systems, where it could be useful and spent wisely. But that isn’t all. The costs are starting to increase. According to a government report that also criticizes how financial records are being kept, the 2010 and 2011 missions could cost up to 18, 1 billion dollars! That is certainly not a good choice. We have to substantiate what we spend money on. The Canadian involvement in Afghanistan shouldn’t be our top priority right now. It costs a huge amount of money for the Government of Canada when it’s completely useless.

How many lives will it take?

The Canadian army has been in Afghanistan for several years now. And since the beginning, soldiers are dying. What's strange, is that even after 155 deaths, Canada is still in that country. One death does not seem that bad but it is because it affects thousands of people. For example, in a city of Ontario, a park and a motorcycle fundraiser were named after a soldier. Not only that, but these men are very dedicated to our country and could really help Canada in a different way other than war. That's only one part of these casualties. The canadian army is not firing bullets at a little piece of wood. They are actuallly Afghanis dying or becoming orphelins, handicapped, etc. Canada's government is not thinking about that. They are thinking about education, safety and health for the Afghanis, which is good, but much less important than death. The question we have to ask ourselves is: When is the government going to see their mistake and is that going to happen now or in a decade? Are they going to realise after 1000 men are dead or now? Only the future will reveal the answer.

CANADA, IGNORING THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS

WHILE THE CANADIAN TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP THE COUNTRY AND ITS CIVILIANS AND ALSO COMBAT AGAINST THE TALIBAN, THEY ARE ALSO BREAKING MANY INTERNATIONAL LAWS. FOR EXAMPLE, THE COMMON ARTICLE 3 OF THE GENEVA CONVENTION CONCERNING THE TREATMENT OF PRISONERS OF WAR. ACCORDING TO THIS CONVENTION NO NATION IS ALLOWED TO TRANSFER A PRISONER TO A OTHER NATION IF IT SUPSPEECTS HE WILL BE TORTURED.
THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE CIVILIANS AND SOLDIERS THAT ARE NOT OR NO LONGER TAKING PART OF THE WAR (WOUNDED OR SICK SOLDIERS, PRISONERS OF WAR, CIVILIANS, RELIGIOUS AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL, ETC.).
THE CANADIAN TROOPS ARE BREAKING THIS LAW BY HANDING THEIR PRISONERS TO US CUSTODY WHERE THEY WILL BE TORTURES. THE PRISONERS THE CANADIAN TROOPS HAND TO THE US END UP IN THE GUANTANAMO BAY PRISON AND AS YOU KNOW, IN THAT PRISON THE CAPTIVE DO NOT GET A VERY HUMAN LIKE TREATMENT. BY HANDING THERE PRISONERS TO THE US THE CANADIAN TROOPS AREN'T ONLY BREAKING THE GENEVA CONVENTION BUT THEY ARE ALSO NOT RESPECTING THE AGREEMENT THEY SIGNED WITH AFGHANISTAN. THIS AGREEMENT SAID THAT BOTH PARTIES AGRRED TO RESPECT THE CONVENTION TO ENSURE THAT ALL DETAINEE'S WERE GOING TO BE WELL TREATED. THE CANADIAN ARMY ALWAYS SAID, ALL THEY WANTED TO DO IS HELP AFGHANISTAN AND IT'S CIVILANS BUT THEY ARE JUST MAKING THE PROBLEM WORST.

Side effects on Canadian soldiers

The involvement of Canadian troops in Afghanistan is a subject that is continuously being debated. Some people think that it’s a good thing that Canada is there but others are against. What do you think?
From my point of view, this war is useless and devastating because it is not helping the Afghani population and its ruining the life of many of our young soldiers. Since the beginning of this war, at least 1500 soldiers have been injured, both physically and mentally, in Afghanistan. We don’t know the exact number though because the department of National Defence keeps it a secret and because it changes with time. These soldiers who left their homes and families behind to represent Canada and help Afghanistan come back with missing legs, missing arms and mental disorder, such as PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). It’s an emotional illness that appears after living terribly frightening or life-threatening experiences. The majority of the physically injured soldiers try to get back in the military forces after passing through rehab; sadly they don’t always make it through the several tests. In those cases, they have to find new jobs which are hard to acquire since they are handicapped and that most of the time they don’t have the studies to get a good job. The other soldiers, the ones that came back with PTSD, are marked for life by the different symptomes of this disease. Do you think it’s necessary to have to live through all this pain knowing that we aren’t really helping Afghanistan?

The US pressure!

A lot of people, think that Canada is acting under the US decisions, and their opinion is not false.

First of all, recently the government of Canada admit that the reason why they maintain military presence in Afghanistan, was because they have been pressured by the US. They accepted to help the US because they didn't want to lose their most important allies! Every year, the US provide them millions of dollars(for their help) and a lot of power. Whit this reason, we can now understand that Canada is sending troops over there for their own benefits. ( You can learn more on http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=21986 )

Secondly, helping the US is a strategic move for Canada, because they can also profit from what the US is stealing from Afghanistan. For example, oil.

All this said, what was the real mission of Canada? They said that they wanted to help them rebuild the country, but is it true?...NOO! They are just making the situation worst and more complicated. In my point of view, Canada is only there to satisfy the US, and not because they wanted to. So way stay longer, when you can invest the money in something more worthy?
